Transitional Kindergarten & Kindergarten
Burney Elementary wants to push the boundaries of TK - 6th Grade education by harnessing the power of high impact actions and strategies to advance learning and teaching. Your Jr. Raiders will be expected to engage in reading, writing, discussing, critical thinking, problem solving and hands-on learning. The vast majority of learning occurs in the classroom with the teacher and classmates. Students will collaborate, communicate, think, experiment, and reflect throughout each day. Our commitment to hands-on, tactile, kinesthetic future based learning develops students’ critical thinking, problem solving, motivation, communication and cooperation.
We will create, celebrate and innovate because our children deserve the very best.

-Native Education: We are dedicated to honoring and integrating Native American culture into our school. The school employs a full-time Native Education paraprofessional who provides dedicated support to Native students and families. On Fridays, the school hosts Talking Circles—an Indigenous practice rooted in equality and deep listening—where students and staff gather to share experiences, reflect on personal growth, and discuss topics of importance. These circles foster a sense of community, respect, and emotional well-being, aligning with the school's commitment to holistic education and cultural inclusivity.
Transitional Kindergarten:
Our TK program is focused on early literacy and foundational math, taught through a play-based program that engages students through joyful, creative learning opportunities.
The mix of play and structured academics emphasizes the importance of social/emotional learning, which encourages children to develop the skills to interact with peers and adults alike.
Our TK program offers a balance of skill-based academic small group instruction and play-based learning centers that are used throughout the day. Each TK classroom learning center is designed to nurture creative thinking, foster social collaboration, and cultivate curiosity through play.
In addition to group math lessons, our learners meet in math circles daily where they dig more deeply into the curriculum.
Literacy lessons include read-alouds, shared reading, and foundational phonics and phonemic awareness.
